Happy Monday! As mentioned at launch, our Monday–Thursday devotions are reserved for paid subscribers. Below is a free preview of today's reflection. I'd love for you to join us for the full week!

“I feel compassion for the people because they have remained with Me now three days and have nothing to eat. If I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way; and some of them have come from a great distance.” (Mark 8:2-3, NASB)

On whom does our Lord have compassion? We can throw out the philosophical answers all we want. “He has compassion on whosoever He chooses in His sovereign wisdom, etc.” However, today’s verse gives us something a little more practical and useful. We see Jesus’ compassion on the people and we also hear the reason why He had compassion on them. These verses tell us three things about the people Jesus directs His compassion toward.
