The Medicine of Scripture
Daily Devotion
A quick note before we start,
I am going to be writing daily devotionals right here. Below, you will find today’s devotion.
Starting this Monday, we are moving to a Monday through Friday schedule. I don’t want to throw out another generic devotional resource. I want to provide real daily substance from God’s Word. To make this daily writing sustainable and ensure I am able to dedicate the time necessary, the Monday-Thursday devotions will be available for $5 a month, with every Friday devotional free.

Thank you for partnering with me on this journey. Now, let’s dive into today’s reflection...
Scripture heals. King David understood this. He wrote, “My soul cleaves to the dust; Revive me according to Your word…My soul weeps because of grief; Strengthen me according to Your word” (Psalm 119:25 and 28). When we consider God’s Word, we often think in terms of instruction, teaching, and correction. Have you considered God’s Word as medicine? David felt a grief like death in his soul. Scripture was his source of revival. He wept in deep grief. Scripture strengthened him.
The Bible has medicinal value that we often miss. Consider Proverbs 4:20-22, “My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings…For they are life to those who find them and health to all their body.” Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” The Bible is life and health for sick bodies and hearts. It is also a master surgeon for the soul. Exposure to the Words of God will bring healing while distance from them makes the soul sick.
Application: Today, pick up your Bible and consider it as medicine for your soul. Ask the Lord to heal you with His Word. He is faithful to do it.
Prayer: “Father, wash over me with Your Word. Heal me through the Scripture I read today. Cause Your words to come alive in my heart and draw me close to You. May it be medicine to my soul and strength for my bones. Amen.”
